About this collection

This Legal English collection is based on the ContractsX MOOC with edX, Contract Law: From Trust to Promise to Contract, under the auspices of Harvard Law School and the HarvardX strategic initiative. It enables both native and non-native speakers of English to go deeper into the lecture material with content mining technologies, highlighting key terms and concepts from contract law through interactive learning designs.

The search function will help you locate where in the lectures Professor Fried has talked about specific points so you can easily transfer key information and legal English expressions into your online discussions, and into your online assessments for the MOOC. The wikify function will gloss key information in the lectures and link in related resources to help broaden your understanding of the lecture content.

Please take a look at our 3 quick training videos below to guide you around the ContractsX Collection in FLAX.

We have also developed a lot of interactive game-based learning activities to help you better understand and review critical concepts within the ContractsX lectures. The FLAX team have just released a series of new mobile apps for Android phones and tablets, which are free to download from GooglePlay. You will also need to go into the Advanced Options and download the specific ContractsX dataset of exercises via the apps. These game-based apps are a fun way to interact with the ContractsX collection in FLAX so you can learn and revise while on the move. The relevant apps for the ContractsX MOOC are:

We also have a short survey for collecting user feedback on the ContractsX MOOC collection in FLAX to help us improve our learning and software designs. We are offering a prize of a $100 Amazon gift voucher for participating in the survey. Be in to win! Thank you.

This collaboration for the development of these socio-legal English language resources is between FLAX and Alannah Fitzgerald with the Open Educational Resources Research Hub, and with funding from The International Research Foundation (TIRF) for English language education.
